LJY Energy is a China-based LiFePO4 battery supplier and OEM/ODM coordination partner. This page is written for UK distributors, solar installers and energy-storage buyers who source lithium batteries from China and need a supplier who works to a written specification, not a catalogue guess.
It deliberately does not repeat our compliance material. Import duty, import VAT and battery producer-responsibility rules for the UK are covered in our UK LiFePO4 import and compliance guide. This page covers the buying side: what UK buyers actually order, how to specify it, how grid connection works, and how to compare quotes on equal terms.
Why the UK Buys LiFePO4 Batteries
Start with the market, stated plainly and kept separate from any buying conclusion. Provisional figures from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) put deployed UK solar capacity at about 21.5 GW by November 2025, with roughly 2.5 GW added in the first eleven months of that year. Most installations by number are domestic rooftops, which is why so much UK battery demand is retrofit storage attached to existing solar.
Policy adds a deadline. Since 1 February 2024, battery storage supplied and installed in a home in Great Britain has been zero-rated for VAT, including standalone batteries; under current legislation (HMRC VAT Notice 708/6) that relief is scheduled to run until 31 March 2027 and then fall back to a reduced rate. The Smart Export Guarantee pays households for exported surplus, and time-of-use tariffs reward shifting consumption — both push in the same direction: more solar paired with storage, and more storage added to solar that is already on the roof.
These figures explain why UK enquiries reach us. They do not, on their own, say which battery any given project needs. That evidence sits in the next section.
What UK Buyers Actually Ask Us For
Our own CRM holds 137 active UK buyer records; 115 of them state a product need, and 82 are graded A or B after review. The needs cluster as follows: 12V batteries (55 records), energy-storage systems (35), 48V (15), 24V (14) and cells (6). By application, energy storage leads (34), followed by solar (19) and telecom/UPS backup (7), with a steady thread of golf-cart and electric golf-trolley enquiries inside the 12V group.
Three individual signals show the range. One UK solar-storage buyer described a rollout across sites nationwide and asked how supply would be organised at that scale. A distributor asked whether we could support regular monthly supply in the range of 25–50 units rather than one-off orders. And a recurring theme is remote off-grid solar, where the grid connection — not the sunshine — is the constraint. Each of these is one enquiry and one signal; we quote them as evidence of what UK buyers ask, not as a market standard.
Battery Families We Coordinate for UK Buyers
51.2V rack and wall-mounted storage
The core of the UK retrofit market. The specification step that matters is inverter communication: protocol support (CAN/RS485) is confirmed per battery model against your inverter before a quote is issued — see our 51.2V inverter communication guide, the 51V rack-mount series and the 51V wall-mounted series.
12V deep-cycle: leisure, marine and golf trolleys
Lead-acid replacement is the most common 12V request. Before quoting we confirm the charge profile of the existing charger, the physical dimensions and terminal layout of the battery box, and whether the load includes a motor (trolley, outboard, mobility) with a higher start current. Start from the 12V 100Ah deep-cycle and 12V 200Ah deep-cycle pages, and the golf-cart battery solutions page for trolley and cart formats.
48V telecom and UPS backup
For backup-power buyers, the deciding items are footprint against the existing rack, discharge rate, and how the battery reports to the site controller. See the 48V 50Ah telecom battery and our telecom backup power solutions.
24V packs and cells for UK pack builders
Some UK buyers assemble their own packs and buy cells or semi-finished packs. We coordinate LiFePO4 cells wholesale supply with grade, capacity and internal-resistance documentation confirmed per batch in the specification.
Grid Connection and Compliance: the Short Version
For a battery or inverter connecting to the UK grid, the route runs through the local Distribution Network Operator under the ENA engineering recommendations. G98 covers type-tested equipment up to 16 A per phase: the installer connects and then notifies the DNO within 28 days. G99 covers anything larger, three-phase or not type-tested: the installer applies to the DNO before connecting. Either way it is your installer’s process with the DNO — our role is to supply the per-model documentation pack that supports the application, which is one reason model-level documentation is confirmed in writing at specification stage.
Most domestic work also runs through MCS-certified installers, which matters for Smart Export Guarantee eligibility; that certification sits with the installer, not the battery supplier. Product marking is handled the same disciplined way: UKCA and/or CE evidence is confirmed for the specific model, in writing, before an order is placed — we do not make blanket marking claims across a range. Duty, import VAT and battery producer responsibility are deliberately not re-argued here; they are set out in full in the UK import and compliance guide. (The EU battery regulation guide is useful background, but Great Britain runs its own rules — do not plan UK imports from the EU text.)
How to Compare Quotes (the £/Usable-kWh Discipline)
UK buyers comparing a China quote against a local shelf price often compare unlike with unlike. Four checks put quotes on one basis:
- Normalise to £ per usable kWh. Divide the price by nameplate kWh multiplied by the stated depth of discharge. A 10 kWh battery quoted at 80% DoD delivers 8 usable kWh; price it on 8.
- Check the cycle-life basis. Cycle claims are only comparable at the same DoD and charge/discharge rate. Ask for the test basis in writing.
- Confirm inverter communication before price, not after delivery. A cheap battery that cannot talk to your inverter is not cheap. Protocol match is a specification step (see the communication guide above).
- Fix the delivery basis. EXW, FOB and DDP put duty, import VAT and the last mile in different places. A low EXW figure and a landed UK figure are not the same quote; the import guide shows where each cost lands.
Wholesale and OEM/ODM for the UK Market
Supply runs in a fixed order: requirements first, then a written specification confirmation (electrical, mechanical, BMS and communication items all pinned down), samples for evaluation, a pilot quantity, and only then volume — with production coordinated through qualified manufacturing partners and the inspection checkpoints agreed for that order, plus export documentation support. Distributors building their own brand can work under private label through our OEM/ODM coordination route; the OEM/ODM RFQ checklist lists the fields that make a first quote fast and accurate. The full range sits in our product directory.
Buying for the UK and want a quote on a written specification? Send us the application, the inverter or load, and the quantity pattern you have in mind via the contact page — monthly-volume buyers, tell us the monthly pattern; it changes how we structure supply.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you hold stock in the UK?
No. We supply from China and do not operate a UK warehouse. Every quotation states the production and shipping arrangement in writing, so you plan around a confirmed schedule rather than an assumed one.
Who handles G98 or G99 — you or us?
Your installer, with the local DNO. G98 is notify-after-connect for type-tested equipment up to 16 A per phase; G99 is apply-before-connect for larger systems. We supply the model documentation the application needs.
Are your batteries UKCA marked?
Marking evidence is confirmed for the specific model, in writing, before you commit to an order. If a model cannot be evidenced for your use, we will say so at specification stage, not after shipment.
Can you match my inverter?
Protocol compatibility is checked before quoting: send the inverter make and model and we confirm CAN/RS485 support for the battery model in question. The inverter communication guide explains what we check.
Can we start with samples or a small pilot?
Yes — evaluation samples and a pilot run are the normal first step before any volume commitment, and they are how the monthly-supply arrangements described above usually begin. Quantities and terms are confirmed per model in the quotation.
