48V / 51.2V Rack LiFePO4 Battery Series — 5kWh to 16kWh Energy Storage

The 51.2V rack battery is the building block of modern residential and light-commercial energy storage — one 19″ rack unit per 5–16kWh, paralleled to whatever the site needs. LJY Energy’s 48V/51.2V (16S) rack series spans 100Ah to 314Ah on a single electrical platform: same voltage, same communication protocols. Cell generations differ in dimensions and weight — enclosure format and rack footprint are confirmed per model at order time, not assumed across the ladder. Distributors stock the ladder; installers scale by paralleling. This series page maps the capacity steps, inverter compatibility, parallel architecture, and wholesale/OEM sourcing.

All four are 16S (51.2V nominal, 58.4V charge) with identical system interfaces — an installer trained on one can commission all four. Detailed pages: 51.2V 314Ah (16.1kWh) · 51.2V 280Ah (14.3kWh).

Capacity-by-Capacity: Who Buys What

51.2V 100Ah (5.12kWh) — the starter rack

Who stocks it: distributors serving apartments, small homes, and budget backup markets — including price-sensitive African and Southeast Asian channels. Lowest entry price in the series.

Who installs it: small households covering evening loads and short outages; it pairs with 3–5kW hybrid inverters. Two units in parallel (10.24kWh) match a standard family home.

Replenishment logic: the upgrade path is built in — customers add a second identical rack when needs grow. Stock the model, sell the expansion.

51.2V 200Ah (10.24kWh) — the volume SKU

Who stocks it: every serious solar distributor. The 10kWh class is the global residential sweet spot — enough for a family home’s overnight consumption with a 5–8kW hybrid inverter.

Who installs it: standard residential solar+storage, small commercial backup. Communicates over CAN/RS485 with selectable low-voltage inverter protocols; pairing with your inverter model and firmware is confirmed per project.

Replenishment logic: highest unit volume in the series. Installers standardize on it — one model, one set of commissioning procedures, one spares pool.

51.2V 280Ah (14.34kWh) — the cost optimizer

Who stocks it: distributors serving price-driven projects and installers with deep LF280K experience. The most field-proven 16S configuration in existence, with the deepest cell supply and typically the lowest cost per kWh.

Who installs it: budget-sensitive residential, light commercial, and DIY-adjacent professional installs where proven supply matters more than maximum density.

Replenishment logic: the “safe choice” SKU — when a project manager wants zero cell-supply risk, this is the answer. See the 280Ah vs 314Ah decision framework.

51.2V 314Ah (16.08kWh) — the flagship

Who stocks it: premium residential distributors and C&I integrators. ~12% more energy than 280Ah at cell level — the current ESS cell generation. Note: 280Ah and 314Ah cells differ in dimensions and weight, so pack structure, enclosure, and rack footprint are confirmed per model — the two are not assumed interchangeable in the same cabinet.

Who installs it: premium homes and projects specifying current-generation cells for 10+ year assets. Cabinet retrofits are assessed case by case — cell dimensions differ between generations, so footprint compatibility is confirmed per project.

Replenishment logic: the specification-led sale — cell-grade documentation and cycle-life data close it. See our 51.2V 314Ah page.

Inverter Compatibility

The series communicates via CAN and RS485, with common low-voltage hybrid-inverter protocols selectable in the BMS. Compatibility is confirmed per project — not assumed:

  • Protocol selection: common low-voltage protocol families are selectable — e.g. Pylontech-compatible CAN, which Deye, Growatt, Luxpower, Solis and SRNE inverters offer as a battery setting. The protocol is set for your inverter model and firmware and pairing is confirmed per project. LJY Energy is not listed on any inverter manufacturer’s approved battery list unless confirmed in writing for your order. See our BMS selection guide.
  • What to confirm: inverter model, battery communication port type, and required protocol version — provide these with the order and we configure accordingly.
  • Closed-loop vs voltage mode: closed-loop (CAN/RS485) is preferred for accurate SOC and protection coordination; voltage-mode fallback works where communication is unsupported.

Parallel Architecture: Scaling the Series

One rack is a module; the system is as many racks as the site needs:

Racks in parallelExample (314Ah)Typical application
116.1kWhSingle home
232.2kWhLarge home / small commercial
464.3kWhCommercial backup
8–16129–257kWhLight C&I (within BMS/inverter limits)
  • Matching rule: parallel racks must be the same model and similar age/state of health — do not mix 280Ah and 314Ah in one bank.
  • Communication: master-slave BMS addressing for multi-rack banks; confirm the BMS parallel limit (commonly up to 16 units) before planning.
  • Inverter capacity: verify the inverter’s battery-input current and the number of battery strings it supports.
  • Cabling: equal-length cables to a common busbar or fused combiner — daisy-chaining causes uneven current sharing.

Where a project calls for a high-voltage DC bus instead of parallel low-voltage racks, the high-voltage stackable LiFePO4 battery (51.2V 100Ah modules for 204.8V+ systems) is the stacked alternative.

Wholesale and OEM/ODM

The rack series is LJY Energy’s core energy-storage line for distribution — lithium batteries for solar storage and home energy storage, all built on LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) chemistry. Distributors typically anchor on the 200Ah volume SKU, add 100Ah for entry markets, and carry 280Ah/314Ah for the premium and cost-optimized ends. One platform, one training program, one support process — four price points.

OEM/ODM: private-label front panels and enclosures, BMS protocol configuration for the target inverter (confirmed per project), distributor-branded specification sheets and installation manuals. For project-scale C&I, custom voltage/capacity engineering is available per project.

Country-market notes: buyers in Southern Africa can review our South Africa sourcing guide for inverter and import specifics.

Installation Best Practices for Dealers

  • Site survey first: measure the installation space, photograph the inverter and existing wiring, note the main breaker rating — before the battery ships. Most commissioning failures trace to site surprises, not battery defects.
  • Rack and ventilation: 19″ racks need front-to-back airflow. In garages and utility rooms, maintain clearance per the enclosure spec; in hot climates, derate expectations or add ventilation.
  • DC cabling: size for the combined parallel current, not one rack. A 4-rack 314Ah bank can deliver 400A+ — the busbar and main breaker must be rated accordingly.
  • Commissioning sequence: mount → cable (torque to spec) → configure BMS protocol → power inverter → verify communication → test charge/discharge cycle → hand over with documentation.
  • Customer handover: demonstrate the monitoring app, explain the SOC display, leave the specification sheet and warranty terms in writing. The handover is where callbacks are prevented.
  • Common mistakes: mixing old and new racks in parallel; undersized DC breakers; skipping protocol configuration (battery works in voltage mode but the customer loses SOC accuracy); no ventilation in enclosed installations.

Light C&I Applications

Beyond homes, the series scales into light commercial and industrial niches:

  • Small business backup: retail shops, clinics, and offices in outage-prone regions — 2–4 racks (32–64kWh) with a 10–20kW hybrid inverter.
  • Telecom-adjacent: note the distinction — telecom 48V sites use 15S (48.0V), not this 16S series. See our 48V telecom battery page. Do not cross-specify.
  • EV charging support: buffering grid power for small DC charging sites — batteries shave demand peaks.
  • Agricultural: solar+storage for irrigation pumps, cold storage, and farm operations beyond the grid.
  • Project engineering: for sites above ~250kWh or with special voltage requirements, custom engineering applies — talk to us with the load profile.

For sites that need the battery outdoors rather than in a rack room, see the outdoor IP65 wall-mounted LiFePO4 battery (51.2V).

UPS & Server-Room Backup: the IT Channel

Small and mid-size server rooms, branch offices, and IT closets still run on lead-acid UPS battery strings — and those strings die on a 3–5 year cycle. That replacement cycle is a standing procurement market served by IT resellers and UPS maintenance contractors, not solar installers:

  • The replacement pitch: a 51.2V rack battery replaces a 48V lead-acid string at the same nominal voltage with 3–5× the cycle life and a fraction of the footprint. One 3U/4U 19″ rack unit replaces multiple lead-acid cabinets.
  • Float-charge compatibility is the check: UPS units float-charge continuously, and some models float high. LiFePO4 tolerates float within its voltage window but degrades faster at sustained high voltage — confirm the UPS float voltage against the battery’s charge profile per UPS model. Never promise universal plug-and-play.
  • Runtime math: required kWh = protected load (kW) × target runtime (hours) ÷ inverter efficiency. Size the rack count from the load audit, not from the old lead-acid string’s nameplate.
  • IT dealer logic: IT resellers and UPS service contractors buy on the maintenance cycle — a district’s installed UPS base generates predictable replacement waves. Stock the standard 100Ah rack units; quote larger banks per project.
  • Boundary: hyperscale data centers are not the target — their supply chains are locked. The channel is SMB server rooms, branch offices, and IT/UPS maintenance dealers.

Request a UPS replacement quotation — send the UPS model, protected load, and target runtime.

Sizing Guide: How Many Racks?

Quick sizing logic for common scenarios (adjust for local solar yield and outage patterns):

ScenarioDaily needSuggested configInverter
Apartment / small home backup5–8kWh1× 100Ah (5.1kWh) or 1× 200Ah (10.2kWh)3–5kW hybrid
Family home, daily cycling10–15kWh1× 200Ah or 1× 314Ah (16.1kWh)5–8kW hybrid
Large home / home office20–30kWh2× 314Ah (32.2kWh)8–12kW hybrid
Small commercial40–70kWh4× 314Ah (64.3kWh)15–30kW

Rule of thumb: size storage for 1–1.5 days of autonomy for grid-backup use; more for off-grid. Oversizing beyond 2× daily consumption rarely pays back. When in doubt, start with fewer racks — the parallel architecture lets customers expand later with identical units.

Warranty & Support Expectations

  • Warranty basis: cycle vs calendar terms, and the depth of discharge the cycle rating assumes.
  • Capacity retention: confirm the warranted retention curve (e.g., ≥80% after N years) and test conditions.
  • Cross-border claims: advance replacement vs return-to-factory, agreed in writing before volume orders.
  • Commissioning support: BMS protocol configuration and inverter communication setup assistance during installation.

LJY Energy confirms warranty terms, claim procedures, and support scope per project in the quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I parallel different models (e.g., 200Ah + 314Ah)?

No — parallel racks must match in model, capacity, and age for balanced operation. Size the bank with one model. If expanding an existing bank years later, add the same model.

Which inverters are compatible?

The BMS supports CAN and RS485 and can be set to common protocols used by hybrid inverters such as Deye, Growatt and Victron systems. Send your inverter model and firmware version; we confirm the protocol setting, cable pinout and charge settings before shipment. See our BMS selection guide. Some inverter brands (e.g. SMA, Sofar, GoodWe) only warranty batteries on their own approved lists, and LJY Energy is not on any inverter maker’s approved list unless confirmed in writing.

280Ah or 314Ah — which should I stock?

Stock 280Ah for cost-driven volume and maximum supply certainty; stock 314Ah for premium positioning and maximum energy per rack. Many distributors carry both — the decision framework helps position them to customers.

Do you support private-label rack programs?

Yes — OEM programs include branded front panels, custom spec sheets, and BMS protocol configuration for your target inverter. Request a quotation  |  WhatsApp +86 159 8945 0735.

Related Battery Series & Solutions

This series is one part of the LJY Energy LiFePO4 range. Buyers standardising across several vehicle and equipment classes usually review the neighbouring series together:

For residential sizing and backup design guidance, see the Home Energy Storage Solutions page.

Which communication ports and protocols does the rack series use?

CAN and RS485 are the usual BMS ports. The protocol profile is set to your inverter model and firmware per project, and the cable pin-out is confirmed against the inverter manual.

Who manufactures the rack series?

LJY Energy is a Shenzhen-based LiFePO4 battery supplier and OEM/ODM coordinator, not a factory. Production is carried out by partner manufacturers; the quotation names the producing manufacturer and the party that issues each document.

Can we evaluate a rack module with our inverter first?

Yes. Sample evaluation before a volume order can be arranged; the sample configuration, cost and shipping method are confirmed in writing per project.

What documents and certificates can be provided?

Ask for the specification sheet, the UN38.3 test summary, the SDS/MSDS, and any test reports or certificates required in your market, plus the dangerous-goods shipping documents. Which documents exist for the exact model and destination is confirmed before you commit. Certification and testing are available or arranged per project for the exact model, configuration and target market; certification and testing fees are borne by the buyer. No certificate is assumed to cover a model until the document for that exact model has been confirmed in writing.

How are rack batteries shipped from China?

LiFePO4 batteries ship as dangerous goods: UN3480, Class 9 (UN3481 when packed with or contained in equipment). The shipment needs a UN38.3 test summary, an SDS/MSDS, DG-compliant packaging and labels, and a dangerous-goods declaration; the route and forwarder are confirmed per order.
