LiFePO4 Batteries for RV & Caravan Manufacturers (OEM Factory-Fit)

RV and caravan manufacturers are making lithium standard equipment — factory-installed before the vehicle leaves the line. The buyer is not a dealer or an end user: it’s the OEM purchasing department signing model-year battery programs. This page covers factory-fit LiFePO4 battery supply for RV and caravan manufacturers: the standard configurations, vehicle integration protocols, and OEM program mechanics.

The Factory-Fit Standard: What OEMs Actually Buy

Common factory-fit configurations (indicative — every program is specified per manufacturer):

ConfigurationTypical specApplication
Dual 12V 100Ah2× 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 (2.56kWh)Standard motorhome/caravan fitment — the volume OEM SKU
Single 12V 200Ah1× 12V 200Ah (2.56kWh)Compact installations, single-battery compartments
Upgraded banks2× 12V 200Ah+ or 24V systemsPremium models, off-grid packages

Public industry examples show the pattern: manufacturers announcing lithium as standard across model lines, with 12V 100Ah-class batteries as the base configuration. The exact specification — capacity, BMS features, enclosure — is defined per manufacturer and model year.

Vehicle Integration: RV-C and CI-BUS

Factory-fit batteries are not standalone products — they integrate with the vehicle’s electrical system:

  • North America — RV-C: the RV industry CAN protocol. Batteries reporting state of charge, temperature, and faults over RV-C integrate with the coach’s multiplex systems and displays.
  • Europe — CI-BUS: the caravan/motorhome standard for habitation-system integration. European OEMs expect CI-BUS-compatible battery communication.
  • Physical integration: European motorhomes often mount batteries under seats or in compact lockers — enclosure dimensions are defined to the millimeter per model. North American Class A/B/C coaches have dedicated battery compartments with defined footprints.
  • Warranty alignment: the battery warranty must align with the vehicle’s warranty terms — a 2-year battery warranty on a 5-year vehicle warranty is a manufacturer problem, not a supplier problem. Terms are negotiated per program.

Model-Year Program Mechanics

OEM battery supply runs on the vehicle industry’s calendar, not the spot market:

  • Model-year contracts: manufacturers commit to annual volumes per model — the battery supplier plans cell procurement and production slots against the forecast.
  • Engineering validation: packs are validated in the vehicle (fit, electrical, thermal, EMC) before series production — with the lead time agreed per program in the project schedule.
  • Certification per market: target-market certification (for example CE, or for North American RVs a UL 1973 or UL 2054 listing by an RVIA-recognized agency) is arranged per program against the destination markets, with testing and certification fees borne by the buyer. LJY Energy does not hold these certificates itself.
  • Change management: any cell, BMS, or enclosure change during the model year requires manufacturer re-approval — supply consistency is contractual.

RV OEM Specification Fields We Fix Per Program

Before a pack is approved for a model year, these fields are agreed in writing and confirmed in the program specification. Where a value depends on testing, it is provided per project from the test report — not estimated in advance.

Field What is agreed per program Status
Case format and size BCI Group 24 / 27 / 31 or DIN H-class footprint, or a custom case to your compartment drawing; dimensions and weight stated in the specification Confirmed per program
Terminal type M8 or M10 stud terminals, or a custom terminal layout; terminal torque stated in the specification Confirmed per program
Continuous / peak current BMS continuous current and peak current (with its duration) matched to the inverter and slide-out or leveling loads Confirmed per program
Battery short-circuit current Test data provided per project, for your fuse interrupt-rating (AIC) selection; not the same as the BMS trip setting Provided per project
Low-temperature charge protection Charge blocked below 0 °C (the usual LiFePO4 limit); the exact cut-off and recovery points are set in the BMS configuration Confirmed per program
Self-heating Optional heater pad: activation temperature, heater power and power source specified per program Optional, per program
Bluetooth app Optional Bluetooth monitoring for owners and dealer service; can be omitted where the vehicle display shows battery data Optional, per program
Vehicle communication CAN or RS485, with RV-C or CI-BUS message mapping agreed against your vehicle system Confirmed per program
Alternator charging Charge profile for a DC-DC charger fed from the alternator; a DC-DC charger is recommended rather than a direct alternator connection (sizing guide) Confirmed per program
Ingress rating IP65 / IP67 or other target agreed per compartment; the IP test is arranged per project, fees borne by the buyer Per project
Vibration and shock Test basis agreed against your road-vibration requirement; testing arranged per project, fees borne by the buyer Per project
Marine and crossover models For models also sold for boats, the owner’s-manual data required by ABYC E-13 (2025 edition), including battery short-circuit current, is prepared per project Per project

North American RVs: battery listing under the 2026 RVIA standards

The RV Industry Association adopted NFPA 1192 (2026 edition) and the ANSI/RVIA DC Standard for DC Voltage Systems in RVs (2025 edition), with mandatory enforcement at member plants from 1 September 2026. A lithium battery installed in an RV must be listed as a complete battery by a third-party listing agency recognized by RVIA; battery makers summarizing the rule name UL 1973 or UL 2054 as the applicable standards. Non-vented lithium batteries installed in the living area also need “do not replace with a vented battery” labeling on and next to the battery and in the owner’s manual.

LJY Energy does not hold UL 1973 or UL 2054 listings. For a North American program, listing of the specific model by an RVIA-recognized agency (for example UL, Intertek, CSA or TÜV) can be arranged per project, with testing and listing fees borne by the buyer, and the label artwork is prepared as part of the program. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the standard OEM battery configuration?

There is no single standard; 2× 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 is a common factory-fit configuration for motorhomes and caravans — with BMS communication matched to the vehicle’s protocol (RV-C or CI-BUS).

How far ahead do OEM programs start?

Validation lead time depends on the vehicle program and is agreed per project — engage early, ideally before the battery compartment design is frozen.

Can you match our existing battery compartment?

Yes — send the compartment dimensions, electrical requirements, and communication protocol. Packs are engineered per manufacturer program.

Which certifications do you support?

Certification is arranged per program against your target markets — for example CE, or for North American RVs a UL 1973 or UL 2054 listing by an RVIA-recognized agency — with testing and certification fees borne by the buyer. LJY Energy does not hold these certificates itself. State the required list in your inquiry.

Who manufactures batteries for RV and caravan OEM programs?

LJY Energy is a Shenzhen-based LiFePO4 battery supplier and OEM/ODM coordinator, not a factory. Production is carried out by partner manufacturers; the quotation names the producing manufacturer and the party that issues each document.

Can we evaluate samples in our vehicle before series supply?

Yes. Sample evaluation before a volume order can be arranged; the sample configuration, cost and shipping method are confirmed in writing per project. Test them in the actual vehicle with your charger, converter and monitoring panel.

Can the battery report to our RV monitoring panel?

Bluetooth, RS485 or CAN communication can be specified per project. The protocol is matched to your panel or controller documentation and verified on a sample.

Which documents should an RV manufacturer request from a battery supplier?

Ask for the signed specification sheet and drawing for the agreed configuration, the UN38.3 test summary, the SDS/MSDS, and any test reports or certificates required in your market, plus the dangerous-goods shipping documents. Which documents exist for the exact model and destination is confirmed before you commit.

How are batteries shipped to an RV or caravan production line?

LiFePO4 batteries ship as dangerous goods: UN3480, Class 9 (UN3481 when packed with or contained in equipment). The shipment needs a UN38.3 test summary, an SDS/MSDS, DG-compliant packaging and labels, and a dangerous-goods declaration; the route and forwarder are confirmed per order.
