LiFePO4 Batteries for Mobile Light Towers — Hybrid & Solar

Mobile light towers are splitting into two battery architectures, and both still run mostly on lead. Diesel-hybrid towers cycle a 24V AGM bank every night so the engine can stay off for hours at a time; solar and solar-hybrid towers are built around 48V storage — yet high-volume models still ship with AGM or lead-carbon banks measured in hundreds of amp-hours. LJY Energy supplies LiFePO4 battery solutions for both platforms: conversion packs for the installed hybrid fleet, and modular storage for solar tower assemblers and OEMs — every configuration confirmed per tower model.

Two platforms, two offers

  • 25.6V conversion packs for diesel-hybrid towers — the installed hybrid fleet (the class of Trime’s X-HYBRID, running a 24V 400Ah AGM bank for roughly 11 hours of battery-only operation) wears out its bank on a daily deep-cycle rhythm. A LiFePO4 conversion extends the replacement interval and the silent-running hours per night
  • 51.2V modular kits for solar & battery towers — solar towers are architected at 48V (Atlas Copco’s HiLight MS3 runs 48 VDC on LiFePO4), and our standard 51.2V family — including the 51.2V 200Ah 10kWh battery — gives assemblers documented modules instead of a pile of AGM blocks

Diesel-hybrid towers: the conversion case

A hybrid tower’s economics rest on engine-off hours: the bank carries the lights while the diesel sleeps, then the engine runs a short, efficient recharge. AGM banks in that rhythm are consumables — deep-cycled nightly, often charged by controllers with lead-only profiles. Converting to LiFePO4 lengthens battery-only runtime per charge, removes watering and equalisation, and stretches the replacement interval. One question gates every conversion, and we answer it in writing before quoting: whether the tower’s existing charger and controller accept a lithium profile, or the charge path changes with the pack.

Solar and solar-hybrid towers: storage is the product

On a solar tower, the battery is not a component — it is the runtime. Rental customers buy fuel-free, silent night operation (Sunbelt Rentals UK alone has ordered more than a thousand solar/hybrid towers), and city rules are tightening around diesel construction equipment — London’s non-road mobile machinery low-emission zone already requires Stage V generators, with zero-emission ambition for 2040. Towers still shipping on AGM or lead-carbon banks carry their replacement problem with them; a documented 51.2V LiFePO4 kit is how assemblers and fleets close that gap.

Pure-battery and event towers

Emission-free zones, indoor venues and night events in residential areas create a third class: towers with no engine at all, charged from the grid or solar between deployments. These live or die on usable capacity per kilogram and honest runtime at real light output — sizing is done against the lamp load and the required nights per charge, not brochure figures.

For tower assemblers and OEMs

If you build solar or hybrid towers — including trailer-based solar units for export — we support private-label LiFePO4 configurations: your compartment, connector and branding, with documentation per configuration. The competitive ground here is not the lowest pack price against complete imported towers; it is a documented kit, a confirmed charge path, and a supplier who answers per model.

The rental-fleet path

  1. Send the tower brand, model and current bank specification (with compartment photos)
  2. We confirm the configuration and the charger/controller path for that model — in writing
  3. Pilot on the highest-utilisation towers in the fleet
  4. Measure a season: engine-off hours, refuelling trips avoided, bank-related downtime
  5. Roll out per model as documented kits across the fleet’s replacement calendar

What to send for a model check

Tower brand and model, current battery bank specification and compartment photos with dimensions, charger/controller make and model (or solar array size for solar towers), lamp load and required battery-only runtime, fleet size and deployment pattern, and your market for documentation requirements.
